So, if you wish to enter the entertainment industry and you are prepared to travel, go that extra mile, put in extra effort, hard graft, exercise a bit of initiative and patience, as nothing lands in your lap, then starting as a runner is probably the best way in and in some cases the only way in. The Runners' Club is a dedicated diary service for runners and we are here to help you start your career.

So what is a Diary Service?

For those who are new to the industry, a diary service is like a crewing agency who look after Directors, Actors, Technicians etc. in this case 'runners'. Usually the diary service represents their members by acting as their booking agent, taking messages for work (act as their personal professional answering service), co-ordinating their diaries, providing tools to contact the industry, giving them professional representation and credibility in what is a very competitive business. The Runners' Club exists to help you stand out from the crowd.

For this service we charge a small monthly fee which works out about 83p per day. We know runners and newcomers don't usually have much money when starting out so we have made the fees fair, accessible and flexible to cater for all.  -  see subscription fees.

At The Runners' Club, we go a step further and actively seek work for all our members on a daily basis. We advertise and promote our services in the main industry directories including Kays, The Knowledge and Kemps and also on as many of the industry websites. We also source information from specialised publications who are in the know about forthcoming productions and events. We periodically send via post and emails to industry companies and production staff, promotional flyers and info offering our services. These are specifically targeted to key people and companies to jog their memory and whenever they need an extra pair of hands or a runner for a specific job, then they know who they need to call.

We also have what we call our 'Locker Room' ('runners on file') where all potential runners who apply and are successful.  You will firstly receive an email confirmation that you are now a member of The Runners' Club and have been placed in the 'locker room'.  You will then receive a user name and password that will allow you to access your members account. As a locker room member you have limited access to our services.

PLEASE NOTE:   In order to be eligible to our 'full services' and more importantly be put forward for jobs, you must subscribe as a 'frontline' runner .  However, if it gets busy, we do contact the runners in our 'locker room' in case of additional work and if all our 'frontline' runners are unavailable, we then offer the work to the members in the 'locker room'.  If 'locker room' members are offered work, then they will be asked and required to upgrade to become a subscribed member in order to accept the work. They will then become 'Frontline Runners' (full members) and be at the front of the queue to get work.

Often enough companies call The Runners' Club with general runner requests and have found us either from our adverts or by word of mouth.

We encourage our runners to be as pro-active as possible. If you are serious about this industry then you have to work at it almost every day. You have to be actively sourcing info, applying for positions, sending in your cv to companies even if they are not advertising, you just don't know when a job will come up. Remember there are thousands of other applicants. You will be amongst a large pile and may end up in the bin. We encourage our runners to promote themselves as often as possible and using the runners' club CV's, business cards, flyers etc. will certainly help you stand out from the crowd.

It is important for all new members that as a diary service we cannot and do not guarantee work as part of the subscription fee. Even a recruitment agency cannot guarantee employment. We stress that you must not rely on us to find you work - you have to be active and resilient, nothing will fall in your lap (if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it) you have to be persistent, tenacious and work together with us to help you find opportunities.  We recommend as a freelancer that you join a temp agency or have other casual work.  This will give you flexibility and allow you to take industry jobs when they arise....It is not essential or obligatory to do this, however, we would all like to live in an ideal world, where we were working every day in our chosen fields but the sad reality is that we don't so we all need a financial cushion, something to rely on in the meantime.

We will, however, endeavour to use all our resources to encourage companies to use our platform. It is in our interest to spread the word and show the industry one call is all they need to make to get their runners.  We know a 'happy runner' is a runner in work.

All new members who wish to join are invited to have an informal chat with us. It is essential that we get to know you, your personalities, strong and weak points. It is equally important that you get to know us and communicate on a regular basis.  For potential members who live outside London and / or are unable to attend our offices in person, we can have a chat by phone.   We  are always seeking new members located in different parts of the UK and / or have the ability to stay in different parts of the country.  It automatically increases your chances for work as does having a driving license and a car.

So, if you are aged 16 and over, speak English, have common sense and are dedicated, loyal, enthusiastic, tenacious, a team player, reliable, professionally minded, ambitious, patient and have the all important proactive tendencies, then 'The Runners' Club needs you!'

What our runners have to say...

'...I have been with the club for some time now and it has been a great platform for me to get me seen above others. It's a dog eat dog world even more so now, so having that edge and being part of something special, The Runners' Club, is a must for anyone.  Hey if you can do it on your own, best to you...'
