Profile: Let me begin by giving you some general information about myself.
My name is Kristian Paul Francies and I live at the above address with my wife and three young children.
I am a mature student at Glamorgan University studying at the Atrium CCI (Centre for Cultural Industries) and am currently in my third year of Motion Design. The main reason why I joined this particular course was due to the fact that it involved so many different aspects of the industry. Over the last two years these have included the creation of motion graphics, digital film-making, colour grading, green screen compositing, editing and 3D design.
My interest in film and the movie industry began whilst studying multi media at Coleg Glan Hafren in 2005. This interest has developed into a passion and personal drive for working within this area of the visual creative industries. Previously I have worked with type and grading for a digital title sequence, and tracking and keying for a promotional blip vert for our end of year show. On more recent projects I have concentrated on creating the appropriate atmosphere with my projects and have attempted to film in such a way to capture this feel in a natural way. I have had many influences to draw from such as Ron Fricke (Baraka), Godfrey Reggio (Koyaanisqatsi), Jack Cardiff (Black narcissus), Kerry Conran (Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow) to name but a few, I have also developed a newly found interest in the digital intermediate side of the industry particularly in respect to colour grading. This aspect of the creative process particularly fascinates me in its function to emphasise mood, and support the cinematography process.
However my main interest is in the production side of T.V and film. To have the opportunity to gain more experience in the T.V production process is totally out of my reach at university level and would benefit my creative outlook immensely. To be granted the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in the industry would be totally fascinating and inspirational. I have a strong passion for programme making and thoroughly enjoy the hard work that takes place on set. I have experienced this many times while working on Britain ‘s got talent 2 and 3 and X-Factor 6. Although these were only day runner positions I thoroughly enjoyed working throughout the whole tour of Britain’s Got Talent 3. The production of the show was incredibly exciting which increased city by city. I also worked with ITV2’s More Talent production crew where I gained a fantastic opportunity to film B role for interview cut aways and fortunately the majority of what I had filmed was broadcast. I can conduct myself in a very professional manner and I’m not fazed by celebrity encounters, as I have worked closely with Britain’s Got Talent judges and presenters Ant & Dec and Stephen Mulhern. I continually seek to gain experience within the film and TV industry, and at times this can prove to be difficult, as many opportunities present them selves with London based companies such as TalkBack Thames. I have found it incredibly difficult to gain a position with a Wales based company, which is terribly frustrating as I think that the productions currently made in Wales are of a very high standard, such as Dr Who, Torchwood, Robin Hood, Merlin. I have the option to moved to London and work with TalkBack on the next Season of BGT. Even though this would be a fantastic opportunity it would be a huge sacrifice for me and my family, especially as I believe that to work in Wales on Welsh productions would be far more gratifying and rewarding.
Although the last three years in education have been hard emotionally and financially. I am now excited, invigorated, focused, inspired and eager to see what awaits me in the work place and know what a great opportunity working within your organisation would give in terms of experience and professionalism.
It would be really good if you are able to find a position for me, I don’t mind being the tea boy; I really do make a lovely cuppa.
